I was nominated for Liebster Award by Soy Allergy Survivor! 🙂 I definitely suggest you check her out as I do think her blog is very interesting and informative.
As part of the nomination, I am to fill out a small Q&A about myself as well as questions she posed, before doing the same to my nominees. Here goes nothing!:
What are your hobbies?: knitting, reading, researching random things that interest me, pintresting (lame)
How/when did you find out about your allergy?: I found out I had celiac disease in 2007, and the rest of my allergies in 2014. I had always ‘not felt right’ after eating, but since it’s all I ever knew, I just thought it was digestion. Little did I know, most of what i experienced was allergic reactions. Live and learn, I suppose.
What is your dream job?: For years I always wanted to open up my own vegan cafe, but for the past 6 years or so, now I want to have my own treatment program for the mentally ill with an emphasis on the mind/body connection. I think it’s important to eat healthy foods in order to not feel even worse physically.
Questions From Soy Allergy Survivor:
Why did you start your blog? I started my blog since I couldn’t find blogs about others who have the myriad of allergies I do. Or at least ones that covered topics I was interested in or that were updated within the past year. Luckily, since joining wordpress I have found many other bloggers who have similar issues and therefore feel less alone.
What do you hope to accomplish through blogging? Mostly to get my own feelings/thoughts/opinions out there verses in my head. I would like to help others who are recently diagnosed or have been at it a while, to know that they aren’t the only ones going through it.
If you could ask anyone to write a guest blog for your site, who would it be and why? I’d say maybe The Gluten Dude. I think he’s funny, educated, and honest. I really enjoy reading his site and seeing all the support his readers share with one another in the comments. That is one of the best attributes to his site, in my opinion. His blog is also one of the reasons I decided to start a blog instead of just keep telling my friends and family the same information.
If you could get the attention of one person or group through your blog, who would it be and why? This is a really hard question I think. I’m going with an out-landish answer and saying the FDA. Or whoever has the absolute final say in the labeling of food packages in the US and the world. I think it is important for gluten to be labeled fully, derivatives and all. Also the top 8, although I think we should follow Canada’s lead with the top 11 common allergens. I think that by making the ingredients in our food supply more visible, that people may make healthier decisions if they see all the chemicals in the food that they consume. I also think that by labeling allergens it could potentially cut medical care costs in the long-term future as people may be able to see a trend in what they are eating and what is making them ill. The sooner a person cuts an allergen out of their diet, the sooner their body has a chance to heal itself, thus giving the body an opportunity to fight off other ailments.
